This new option is designed to save you time and money. Simply email
your monthly Vehicle Inventory Tax (VIT) statement by the 10th of each
month and we will do the rest. When you sign up for the bank draft
program it will take effect immediately. Our bank draft program will
eliminate standing in line, traveling, writing checks, and postage. We
do all the work for you!!
To take advantage of this free service, complete a
Motor Vehicle Automatic Bank Draft Authorization Form and return it to
our office. The automatic payment option is also available for dealer
transactions processed through our office. To cancel a dealer automatic bank draft already set up, complete an ACH Cancellation Form and return it to our office.

Motor Vehicle Dealer's Special Inventory - VIT
If you are a new dealer in Montague County and would like information on title and registration procedures, please email DMV@co.montague.tx.us to schedule a meeting.
Motor Vehicle
Sales/Leases on the inventory of motor vehicles, semi-trucks,
motorcycles, recreational vehicles (RVs), and travel trailers held by a
dealer who holds a General Distinguishing Number (GDN) issued by the
Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.
Vessels and Outboard Motor
Sales on the inventory of vessels and outboard motors held by a dealer
who holds a Dealer's and Manufacturer Number issued by the Texas Parks
and Wildlife Department.
Heavy Equipment
Sales/Leases on the inventory of heavy equipment designated as a Heavy
Equipment Dealer by the Williamson Central Appraisal District.

Penalties
Montague County Tax Assessor/Collector's Office will use the following guidelines
to enforce VIT compliance as stated in Texas Property Tax Code:
- Late Payment: Section 23.122 (o) An owner who fails to
remit unit property taxes due as required by this section shall pay a
penalty of 5% of the amount due. If the amount is not paid within 10
days after the due date, the owner shall pay an additional penalty of 5%
of the amount due.
- Late Statement: Section 23.122 (n) In addition to other
penalties provided by law, a dealer who fails to file or fails to
timely file a statement as required by this section shall forfeit a
penalty. A tax lien attaches to the dealer's business personal property
to secure payment of the penalty. A penalty forfeited under this
subsection is $500 for each month or part of a month in which a
statement is not filed or timely filed after it is due.
