Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Public Notice - In coordination with the Nortex Regional Planning Commission
(NRPC), the Counties of Archer, Baylor, Clay, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Jack, Montague, Wilbarger, and Young are updating their Hazard Mitigation Plans (HMAP or Plan). The Plans will address natural hazards that affect the area. The goal of the Plans is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards through effective mitigation. Click here for more information on the meeting.
Identification Required for Transfer of Property - Effective September 1, 2025, the County Clerk's Office shall require a person presenting a document in person for filing in the real property records of the county to present a photo identification to the clerk. The clerk shall copy the photo identification or record information from the photo identification. The clerk may not charge a person a fee to copy for record the information from a photo identification.
County Taxes and Jury Duty Scam Alert - There have been reports of 2 scams hitting Montague County residents regarding past due taxes and failing to report to jury duty. County Judge Benton has stated that no one from a county office would call residents requesting payments via the telephone. 2025-2026 Tax Rate - Montague County adopted a tax rate that will raise more taxes for Maintenance and Operations than last year's tax rate. The tax rate will effectively be raised by 2.78% and will raise taxes for Maintenance and Operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $13.40.
